        Winter Field Day 2022

This year we set up our gear at a new location: Wilder Fire Station in Wilder, Idaho. Due to other commitments, we had fewer operators than usual, but we still put up four HF stations to cover phone and digital on the 15, 20 and 40 meter bands. Even with the smaller group we ended up with a higher score than last year, with around 70 contacts from all over the US and Canada.

^^^ It was a very cold setup, with heavy frost on anything outdoors. Inside were all the accomodations we could ask for.

^^^ Rats nest! Power cords, coax and CAT 5 cables everywhere. We used a small Honda generator to power all the equipment in order to qualify for bonus points.

^^^ Rick, KE7PNW went all out with his 6BTV vertical that seemed to take up half the lot!

^^^ Fred, KI7BCL, set up his portable vertical. Hard to see, but the caution tape on the ground outlines a huge counterpoise field for the antenna.

^^^ The grassy areas where most put their antennas had one drawback: it was about 200 feet from the building. That's a lot of coax. A couple of us did field expedient setups, using the available terrain to advantage.

^^^ For some of us it was an exhausting weekend. :-)

All in all, we had a great time. We want to say "THANK YOU!" to Fire Chief Steve Rhodes and his team for giving us such a warm welcome. They all went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. The best part of it is that they invited us to use thier facilities again whenever we needed. Community service at its best!

73 everyone, and we hope to see all of you out there next time!
